Josef Muhle started his carrier company as a sole trader back in 1958, transporting goods for the construction industry around Bremen. In subsequent years, Josef Muhle GmbH developed into a haulage company specializing in national and international transportation. Today, over 50 years later, Paneuropa is a highly-competitive haulage and logistics company that is active in Europe yet is still owner-operated.
In order to prepare for the changing framework conditions in the transport market, and due to associated ecological and economic benefits, Paneuropa has been transferring transport from road to rail since 2002. This area of combined transport was heavily strengthened in subsequent years. In 2004, Paneuropa took over Rösch Internationale Spedition und Transporte GmbH, a pioneer in the area of combined rail/road transport. On 1 January 2008, Paneuropa took over the activities of Nielsen & Sörensen Intermodal, based in Hamburg, and was thus able to extend its routes through the inclusion of Scandinavian countries. The founding of a branch at the Eifeltor combined terminal in Cologne on 1 March 2009 allowed further spatial expansion into the Rhine/Ruhr area and the adjacent BeNeLux states. Since 2002, the Paneuropa Group has grown each year by more than 20% on average, and in the year of 2012, in spite of continued difficult conditions at times, has been able to record further double-digit growth. Now, more than 75 % of total turnover comes from the combined transport sector between Germany and Switzerland, Spain and Italy. Daily block-train transport and confirmed groups of wagons, as well as more than 50 pulling units, guarantee the most reliable goods transport within Europe. The total vehicle fleet comprises more than 800 units.
Paneuropa carries out additional activities in the field of contract logistics, providing project-related services in the field of supply chain management, particularly for Asian customers.
Today, the company maintains branches and subsidiaries in Hamburg, Bremen, Cologne, Poznan and Verona, with its central administration based at its headquarters in Vechta.
